PACCAR funds MBA teaching award for 10 more years

PACCAR Inc, a global technology leader in capital goods and financial services, has renewed the PACCAR Award for Teaching Excellence at the University of Washington for an additional 10 years.  The PACCAR Award, given annually since 1998, is the most prestigious graduate school of business teaching award in the United States.

The amount of the stipend will be increased from $25,000 to $35,000.  The annual PACCAR Award recipient is selected by a panel of first and second year MBA students.  Associate Professor of Operations Management Mark Hillier earned the award in 2007.  All of the PACCAR Award winners are full-time members of the UW Business School faculty, sharing their remarkable teaching gifts with the next generation of aspiring business leaders.

PACCAR’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mark Pigott shared, "This teaching award is founded on the belief that the essence of education is what happens in the classroom between teacher and students.  Learning is enhanced when a teacher challenges students to think critically, displays expertise in the subject matter, and communicates enthusiasm for the learning process. The best teachers offer students a range of ideas from today's practical solutions to tomorrow's conceptual thinking—while emphasizing responsibilities to society expected of future leaders.  The University of Washington graduate school of business faculty represents some of the best teachers in the nation."

UW Business School Dean James Jiambalvo expressed his gratitude to PACCAR for its support of teaching excellence.  "This award promotes one of the core values of our University," said Jiambalvo.  "We believe that faculty need to be outstanding teachers and mentors, as well as scholars.  Our long term goal to become the best public business school in America is enhanced by our emphasis on recruiting and retaining truly great teachers for the benefit of our students."
