Burt Hamner, MBA '88
I received 2 Masters degrees in 1998 from UW, in Business and in Marine Affairs. What do you do with that odd combo? Well last year I started a tidal energy company and this year we received a contract from Tacoma Power to study the feasibility of commercial-scale tidal energy generation in the Tacoma Narrows. It is the first public utility tidal energy study on the West Coast. There are three UW professors on my team and we are having a fine time with an amazing vision. See pugetsoundtidalpower.com for details.
And, in April I co-hosted a UW event on Sustainable Finance, featuring managing directors from Dow Jones and S&P, at a CFO Forum event with B School Prof Jon Karpoff and Dean Jim Jiambalvo, including lunch with leading foundations and a public forum attended by over 100 people. Dow Jones and S&P believe social responsibility is profitable for business. Who can argue with them? I always enjoy hearing from others, burt@pugetsoundtidalpower.com
