Andrew Thompson, BA ‘74
Thompson has been promoted to chief executive officer of the Red River Valley & Western Railroad, Twin Cities & Western Railroad, and Minnesota Prairie Line, Inc., effective May 1.
Mr. Thompson started his rail career at Seattle, Wash. in 1968 as a switchman and yardmaster for the Northern Pacific and later Burlington Northern. He transferred to St. Paul, Minn. in 1974 as a management trainee, subsequently advancing to assistant trainmaster at Lincoln, Neb., trainmaster at Helena, Mont., and assistant superintendent, superintendent, and president of the Lake Superior Terminal at Superior, Wis. He became division superintendent at Springfield, Mo. in 1982 and was assistant general manager at Springfield from 1983 until 1987, when he was promoted to assistant vice president Transportation at Overland Park, Kans. Mr. Thompson became division general manager at Fort Worth, Texas in 1988.
Transferring to the Marketing Department in 1992 as vice president Aluminum, Non-Ferrous Metals & Ores, he was named general manager Merchandise Operations in 1994 and vice president Packaged Commodities in 1995.
Thomas Lindquist, BA ‘82
Plum Creek Timber Company, Inc. has appointed Thomas Lindquist as executive vice president and chief operating officer. In his new role, he will oversee the sustainable management of the company’s 8.2 million acres of timberland, as well as its Real Estate and Manufacturing segments.
“Tom joined Plum Creek in 2001 as executive vice president,” said Rick Holley. “Since then, he has proven to be a dynamic leader and strong contributor to our executive team. He has transformed the company’s Real Estate segment from an emerging business to an established and continuously growing business that has achieved significant financial results for Plum Creek.”
Prior to joining Plum Creek, Lindquist was with Trammell Crow Company where he held several roles in business development before advancing to the position of executive vice president.
Nancy Hill, BA ‘85
Spiration, Inc., a developer of novel medical technology designed to benefit patients with severe and chronic conditions of the lung, recently announced the appointment of Nancy Hill as Vice President of Marketing.
Hill joins Spiration, Inc. with more than 16 years of sales and marketing experience in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, focused on unique early-stage and commercialized products in a wide variety of therapeutic areas. At Spiration, Hill will manage all aspects of the company's marketing, commercialization and business development efforts.
Wayne Burns, BA ‘92
Recently, NanoString Technologies, Inc. announced the appointment of Wayne Burns as Chief Financial Officer. Burns brings over 20 years of finance and operating experience to Nanostring Technologies. Most recently he served as COO and CFO at Action Engine Corporation. Previously Wayne was a founder and CEO of SafariDog, Inc., which successfully shipped the completed product within 12 months of its inception. Prior to SafariDog, Wayne served as CFO for four venture backed software companies all of which were successfully grown and then acquired by public companies. Wayne has also served as CFO of Renaissance GRX, Inc., a public graphics card manufacturer and CFO of Tyler Refrigeration, Inc. Prior to that Wayne spent 5 years with PriceWaterhouseCoopers in the U.S. and Italy.
Nathan McDonald, BA ‘99
CellCyte Genetics Corporation announced the appointment of Nathan McDonald as Vice President of Finance. McDonald is a creative leader with extensive business and organizational development background with experience in efficient execution and achievement of business and financial milestones. He has successfully structured more than $30 million in equity financing and has been a financial advisor on business strategy and financial opportunities for over 150 emerging companies.
