Rich Derks (BSIE '82, MBA '91) was just awarded a patent on the design of the lightest weight transport wheelchair in the market. Derks is Vice President of Marketing at Medline Industries, a $3B medical supplies manufacturer in the Chicago area.
David Herrick, MBA '91
David is General Manager of Kaplow, a consumer and corporate communications agency in New York City with clients that include eBay, Target Stores, American Express and Avon. He lives in the City with his wife and 2 year old daughter.
Paresh Patel, MBA '99
Patel started his vending business with one pop machine to pay for his education. Fifteen years later, Portland-based Courtesy Vending LLC is a growing $3.8 million business with 20 employees and more than 1,100 machines in the Portland area. Patel says the company, which grew 10 percent last year, has the potential to someday be a $100 million business.
That's ambitious, but the entrepreneurial Patel -- who was named Oregon's Small Business Administration Small Business Person of the Year in 2005 and one of Angel Oregon's 10 semi-finalists this year -- may have the chops to do it.
