UW Business School ranked 21st best for getting hired

Fortune magazine has rated the UW Business School's full-time MBA Program the 21st best in the country for landing a job - and 6th among public universities.

To select the 2007 "50 Best Business Schools for Getting Hired," Fortune and its partner, QS, analyzed information from QS's TopMBA Scorecard, which includes data on 111 top accredited US business schools. Schools were ranked based equally on their strength of career placement and reputation with MBA recruiters nationwide.

The UW Business School was rated 15th nationally by the surveyed recruiters. Of the UW MBA class of 2005, used to calculate the career placement strength in this ranking, 95 percent were employed within three months of graduation. Those MBA grads averaged two job offers each, and earned a starting average base salary of $76,333 and an average signing bonus of $13,055.

To tabulate each school's career-placement strength, the percentage of students employed within three months of graduation accounted for 20 percent of the score, average number of employment offers per student accounted for another 20 percent, and students' average salary on graduation accounted for the remaining 60 percent of the score.

To determine schools' recruiter ratings, QS surveyed 445 human resources managers responsible for MBA hiring at their company. Recruiters were asked to name the business schools from which they would prefer to hire MBAs, and which they consider to be the most reputable. The schools' scores were then converted into an index number of 0 to 100, where 100 is the top-scoring MBA program.

The UW MBA placement rate has ranked among very best in the nation for several years running. The UW Business Connections Center facilitates connections between MBA students, employers, alumni and faculty, catalyzing numerous mentorship, internship and career opportunities. According to the Business Connections Center, 95.8 percent of 2006 UW MBA graduates were employed within three months after graduation, with an average starting salary of $84,069.
