    NEWS

Business School Alumnus a Candidate on "The Apprentice"
James Sun (BA 1999) is a candidate on “The Apprentice,” Donald Trump’s popular reality show.

Sun is the founder and CEO of Zoodango.com, a web-based professional networking company that encourages face-to-face meetings and the exchange of expertise.

His rags-to-riches story will likely resonate with Trump. When Sun was four, his family immigrated to the United States from Korea. They arrived with $35, knew no one and spoke no English.

But the family eventually flourished. Sun, a born entrepreneur, began reading The Wall Street Journal at age 13, and created a small technology investment fund at 18. By the time he graduated from the UW Business School with honors, he had turned an initial investment of $5,000 into $2.3 million.

Sun then worked for Deloitte Consulting and traveled extensively, all the while studying human interactions in this age of ubiquitous information technology. These observations provided the spark for Zoodango.

But Sun jumped at the chance to vie for a coveted spot on Trump’s management team. For the sixth season of "The Apprentice," the action moved from New York City to Los Angeles, with each week’s winning team earning the right to live like Trump in a luxurious mansion while the losers have to sleep outside in tents.

James Sun will speak about his post-UW experiences and adventures on April 26, 2007, during the third-annual Washington Weekend.

    Going Global with Alumni Events
The UW Business School hosted its second annual Alumni Event in Seoul, Korea on December 13, 2006. About 80 alumni representing BA, MBA, Global EMBA, and PhD classes attended the event held at the COEX Intercontinental Hotel.

Special awards were presented by Dean Jiambalvo to two of our distinguished alumni. Dr. Soo Il Kwak (PhD 1974) is the former Dean of the Seoul National University Business School and Dr. Chong S. Lee (PhD 1986) is currently the Vice Chairman and CEO of GIIR. View pictures from this event.

Through these events, we are building stronger alumni engagement and association to sustain the legacy of UW experience.

2007 IKEA International Case Competition Results
The 2007 IKEA International Case Competition was a great success.  The event, which took place on January 18, was well organized and conducted by the Global Business Center and a student team led by Alex Wingert and Ryan Chen.

Thank you to our alumni who volunteered their time to serve as judges – Polia Quinn, Ahn Tran and Juntti.  Some or all of the finalist teams will be invited to represent the UW Business School in other Case Competitions that are being conducted during the remainder of the year.
