    Dean's Business Breakfast Series Begins
    The Dean's Business Breakfast Series kicks off on October 18th with John Stanton of Trilogy Partners followed by Richard Barton of Zillow.com on November 8th. The lectures begin with a continental breakfast at 7:15 a.m. The speakers present from 8-9 a.m. and will conclude with a Q&A period.

    Regional Event: Bay Area
    Thursday, October 26, 2006, 6-8 p.m.
    The Business School is Coming Your Way! Come mingle with fellow Bay Area alumni at a private reception featuring a state of the school address by Dean Jim Jiambalvo. The event takes place at The City Club of San Francisco, The Stock Exchange Tower, 155 Sansome Street. Registration is required.     Global Business Study Tours 10 Year Reunion and Celebration
    In the decade since the inaugural Global Business Study Tour went to Indonesia, over 400 students have visited 23 countries. On Friday, October 27, join MBA alumni, faculty, the 2007 tour leaders, and keynote speaker Karma Hadjimichalakis to celebrate the program that has helped hundreds of students expand their global business expertise.

    Alumni Reception with the Dean
    SAVE THE DATE! Wednesday, November 29th at 6:00 p.m. join us at the University of Washington Club for a reception with Dean Jim Jiambalvo! All Business School alumni are invited to attend. Mingle with fellow business school alumni, hear a presentation by the Dean and enjoy hors d'oeuvres, wine and beer at this free event. Stay tuned for more information and registration.

    The Business School is Coming Your Way!
    That's right! This coming year the Business School will be putting on receptions in 4 cities: San Francisco, Los Angeles, Portland and New York. Join us for a night with the Dean, networking and catching up with old friends.

    Our first event will be in San Francisco on October 26th at The City Club of San Francisco. Keep an eye out on our alumni website for future dates and locations!

    Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Receives $1.5 Million
    The University of Washington Business School recently announced the gift of $1.5 million from Robert J. Herbold, managing director of Herbold Group, LLC, to establish an endowed professorship in entrepreneurship and a venture creation laboratory within the school's Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

    Alumnus Gives $6 Million to UW Business School
    J. Gary Shansby, co-founder and chairman of TSG Consumer Partners and a graduate of the University of Washington Business School, has given $1 million to establish the J.Gary Shansby Endowed Chair in Marketing Strategy and $5 million to support the school's construction of a new facility.

    Al Barnhill, PhD '66
    Al Barnhill has completed a comprehensive text that integrates tactical and strategic management. It is entitled A Tactical and Strategic Management Process. It is available at www.albarnhill.com.

    Since leaving the world of banking, my husband and I have had two wonderful kids, now ages 15 and 12. In recent years, I have worked part-time at Seattle Prep in both the Accounting Department and the Drama Department. I have actually won the high school version of the "Tony" award twice for best program design for a high school musical!! Who would've thought??

    Tamra Chandler, MBA '90
    The Seattle office of Hitachi Consulting has promoted Chandler as managing vice president of global solutions and people.

    David Gens, MBA '99
    The TAS Group recently announced that it has named David Gens CFO of the company. The TAS Group was formed in July 2006 when Select Selling acquired of the majority of the global assets of the OnTarget sales methodology division from Oracle. Gens brings 17 years of experience with high-growth companies to this position. Prior to The TAS Group, he served as senior financial officer in three of Seattle's fastest growing companies, including Ivey Imaging, 180solutions and Global Seafoods. He has led more than $100 million in financings over the years.

    John Borland, MBA '01
    Borland has been promoted to vice president and relationship manager at UW Bank in Seattle.

    Gerald Heinlen, MBA '87
    On August 18, 2006 Yakima Products named Gerald T. Heinlen to the position of chief executive officer. Heinlen has a career that includes nearly 20 years in consumer products, including 10 years with Waterloo Industries in Waterloo, Iowa, where he first served as vice president of marketing and new business development prior to his appointment as president and chief operating officer in 2002. Before Waterloo Industries, Heinlen was a senior national account manager and channel manager with Skil-Bosch Power Tool Company in Chicago. In addition, he served as marketing manager for Dremel Manufacturing, and served in various roles at Ore-Ida Foods.

    Steven Erwin, MBA '85
    In May, 2006 the President and CEO of 21st Century Insurance announced the appointment of Steven P. Erwin as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for the company. Before joining 21st Century Insurance, Erwin served as Executive Vice President and CFO of U.S. Bancorp and, most recently, Health Net Inc. Earlier in his career, he was Treasurer for BayBanks, Inc. and Senior Vice President, CFO and Treasurer for Old National Ban Corporation, and served on the audit staff at Coopers & Lybrand.
