Entrepreneurship Center Changes Name, Broadens Focus
The Center for Technology Entrepreneurship (CTE) has changed its name to the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) to better represent the breadth of its work.
More than a cosmetic update, CIE Executive Director Christopher Klemm explains that this new title is intended to better represent the breadth of the Center's work, which ranges far beyond advancements in the commercialization of technology alone.
"We define innovation broadly," Klemm says. "It's more than technological advancement - it's an idea, concept, or solution that redefines a paradigm and takes discovery to the next level.
"Innovation is the application of learning and imagination to solve problems. And entrepreneurship is more than business - it's a mindset. It's a willingness to take a calculated risk, challenge the status quo, and think outside the box to create something new or unique. Entrepreneurship is a pattern of focused action designed to create value across disciplines."
The Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship is designed to stimulate and support interdisciplinary entrepreneurship, through education, initiatives and forums that go beyond the borders of the Business School to infuse entrepreneurial thinking across the University of Washington and beyond. The Center also fosters innovative ventures by educating, building networks and offering resources to inspire, support and launch new ventures of all kinds. Finally, it supports leading-edge research on innovation and entrepreneurship.
