UW MBAs Win Challenge for Charity ... Again
People wonder whether the MBA Challenge for Charity champion's trophy, the Golden Briefcase, is, in fact, a golden briefcase.
It is. You can even visit it in the Balmer Hall MBA Lounge, where it has resided for these past six years.
The sixth-straight Challenge for Charity victory was sweet for the UW MBA students, who extended the Business School's dynasty with a dominating performance in this annual battle among prominent west coast business schools to provide the most support to local service organizations. MBAs at Stanford, UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC Irvine, UC Davis and USC simply could not match the UW's more than 1,500 volunteer hours logged and $128,000 raised at the February charity auction to support Special Olympics Washington and the Boys & Girls Clubs of King County.
But UW MBAs are not resting on their Golden Briefcase. The challenge for this year's campaign is clear: "The 2006 team is committed to keeping the tradition going by winning the briefcase for the seventh year in a row," says Cally Lervick, president of UW C4C. "The team is energized and has already started planning for the 2006 auction February 24 at Seattle Center's spectacular McCaw Hall. Chris Devine, the volunteer coordinator has been working to keep our hours up. We're keeping everyone focused on helping the Boys & Girls Club and Special Olympics."
That's the real motivation, as anyone will tell you. The Golden Briefcase does look good in the lounge, though.
