UW MBAs Win Challenge for Charity ... Again
People wonder whether the MBA Challenge for Charity champion's trophy, the Golden Briefcase, is, in fact, a golden briefcase. It is. You can even visit it in the Balmer Hall MBA Lounge, where it has resided for these past six years.

Business School has First McGowan Scholar
The Business School has its first McGowan Scholar, and she has big plans to make the most of the prestigious honor. Rebecca Lovell, a second-year MBA student from Seattle, has won the scholarship named after - and funded by - William G. McGowan, the late founder of MCI Communications and catalyst of telecommunication deregulation. Each year, the McGowan Charitable Fund metes out scholarships to a select group of management students who exhibit extraordinary leadership, academic achievement, character, entrepreneurship and commitment to the community.

MBAlmer: Fake News for Real MBAs
It began, appropriately enough, with the surreptitious passing of notes in the back of class. Feeling uninspired one day, Gavin Shearer (MBA 2005) and Chris Meyer (MBA 2005) traded invented headlines - some satiric, some sophomoric - affectionately lampooning friends and favorite profs. The in-jokes got out, and soon someone suggested culling them into a fake online newspaper, a local version of The Onion.

Financial Times Surveying Class of 2002
As part of their annual ranking of business schools, the Financial Times is currently surveying 2002 graduates of the Full-Time MBA Program. The alumni survey is a major factor in the ranking calculations. The Times wants to know how graduates are doing three years later and how they feel now looking back on their UW MBA experience. We need at least a 20% survey response rate in order to be considered for the Financial Times ranking. The Classes of 2000 and 2001 came through with great response rates. If you are a member of the Class of 2002 and have not yet received an email from the Financial Times with survey instructions, contact Dan Poston at 206-685-8395 or dposton@u.washington.edu.
