    2005 IKEA International Case Competition Results
    The IKEA International Case Competition is an annual event in which teams of undergraduate business students apply their knowledge and skills to a real-life international business problem. Panels of corporate and faculty judges evaluate team analyses and recommendations based on their diagnosis of the problem, application of theory and classroom concepts, ability to communicate ideas, teamwork, and creativity.

    Business School Graduate Receives NHRMA Award
    A UW Business School graduate, Kah Loh, won the Northwest Human Resource Management Association (NHRMA) Robert Denomy Award for outstanding student. Kah was selected for the award among applicants from Washington, Oregon and Alaska. He received the award and a $1000 prize at the NHRMA annual conference on Sept 14th at Semiamoo. As his advisor, Jane George-Falvy also received an award.

    Business School Receives $10 Million from Foster Foundation
    Preparations for new facilities to house the University of Washington Business School will accelerate from the planning to the design phase with the receipt of a $10 million donation, the largest private gift the school has received.

    UW Business School Professor Advises State Lawmakers on Offshoring
    Testifying recently before the Washington legislature's commerce committee, associate professor of finance Kathy Dewenter argued that critics of offshoring have used election-year sound-bites and a grudging economic recovery to exaggerate its impact on the American knowledge worker to a cataclysm.

    Business before Pleasure: Emotions Play Key Role in Consumer Spending
    In a study that sheds new light on how consumers choose between pleasurable or practical products, a University of Washington researcher has found that people are more likely to buy fun products, but only if the situation allows them the flexibility to rationalize their purchases.

    Over the past four years the UW MBA Program has donated $275,234 Special Olympics Washington and the Boys & Girls Clubs of King County, and with your support, we can reach this year's fundraising goal of $140,000!

    CEO Lunch Series
    This popular lecture series held at the Columbia Tower Club features presentations by CEOs of local companies. The series began on February 1st with an engaging and thought-provoking presentation by Steve Gillis of Corixa. The next lunch will be held on April 5th and features Jeff Brotman of Costco.

    Dean's Business Breakfast
    These monthly breakfasts held on the UW campus, feature presentations by local business leaders. The next breakfast on March 9th will feature Dennis Madsen, President and CEO on R.E.I. The cost per lecture is $15 and includes breakfast and parking.
