Calling All Mariners Fans: Help Support Our Student Entrepreneurs!
As a part of the Business School Entrepreneurship Program, five students have started a small business from scratch. "Mojo Dogs" is a new exciting hot-dog cart operated outside the Safeco Field during Mariners home games. While selling hot dogs, students are learning all the ups and downs, pros and cons, of this entrepreneurial opportunity. The last two quarters have been a roller coaster for the young, enthusiastic undergrads who worked hard to develop the idea, obtain money from local investors, and finally to be able to see themselves in action.
The students got started with Mojo Dogs as part of the Entrepreneurship Program's "Creating a Company" course, (Business Policy 472 and 473) a two-quarter class that has students write a business plan and present it to a venture capitalist in the first quarter to receive the start up money for the business. Currently, the students are in their second quarter of class when they are required to operate the business. As part of this class, students formed as a Limited Liability Corporation (LLC) where they gained the real-life experience of forming and operating the business, from getting the required permits and finding the location, to the current operation stage of the business.
