
You are invited for a glimpse into the minds of infants and children presented by University of Washington Center for Mind, Brain and Learning. Alumni and friends are invited to this lecture to discover how infants and young children process information and learn. Drs. Patricia K. Kuhl and Andrew N. Meltzoff, co-authors of "The Scientist in the Crib: Mind, Brains and How Children Learn," will discuss developments in the minds of infants, language acquisition, and the discoveries that have far-reaching impacts for educators, parents, policymakers and business leaders.

About the Speakers
Dr. Patricia K. Kuhl is the University of Washington William P. and Ruth Gerberding Professor and co-director of the UW Center for Mind, Brain, and Learning. Her research focuses on the study of language acquisition, speech development, and the processing of language information by the brain. A member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Kuhl's work has played a major role in demonstrating how early exposure to speech alters the mechanisms of perception, affecting the brain's processing of language. She is co-author of the book, The Scientist in the Crib (buy online from University Book Store).
Dr. Andrew N. Meltzoff is professor of Psychology and co-director of the UW Center for Mind, Brain and Learning. He is an internationally recognized expert on cognitive and social development in infants and young children. He has published articles on the growth of children's memory, personality, and social, emotional, and cognitive development. Dr. Meltzoff received the MERIT Award of the National Institutes of Health in 1998 for outstanding research. He is the co-author of two books about early learning and brain development: The Scientist in the Crib (buy online) and Words, Thoughts, and Theories (buy online).
