Working with Students

• Commencement
  
  As we come to the end of the school year, the University of Washington celebrates together in Husky Stadium to honor all the achievements of the graduates. Commencement is a memorable day for all, with nearly 40,000 family members and friends cheering on their love ones, and graduates proudly waiting to receive their well-earned diplomas.

  Volunteer Marshals will assist with directional and lining up instructions for graduates prior to the ceremony.

• Finals Bites
  
  Finals Bites is the UWAA's effort to connect with students when they need it most each quarter-the first night of Finals Week!

  This event offers late-night snacks such as burritos, pizza, doughnuts and chicken wings to hard-working and hungry students in a side room of Odegaard Undergraduate Library. It allows volunteers a unique opportunity to meet UW students.

• First Day Bagels & Coffee
  
  First Day is the UWAA's annual kickoff to the new school year and is for new and returning UW students. Volunteers and staff members hand out coffee, bagels and campus maps to students as they arrive on campus the first morning of fall quarter.

  Because everyone loves free food, volunteers are guaranteed face-time with UW students as the provide sustenance and answer questions.

Campus Involvement

• FIUTS Wednesday Lunch
  
  For more than 30 years, FIUTS Wednesday Lunch has been a weekly meeting place for the University of Washington international community. Wednesday lunch is a free lunch for international students, domestic students, and others who want to meet people from around the world and share their culture with others. Approximately 250-300 students attend Wednesday Lunch each week in HUB 200 ABC on the UW Campus.

• FIUTS Community BBQ
  
  The FIUTS Community BBQ is the largest FIUTS event of the year. More than 500 people are expected to join us in welcoming the more than 1,200 new international students and celebrating the start of a new academic year.

• Dawg Daze
  
  Be a part of the UW's celebration to welcome nearly 7,000 incoming students as Huskies. Dawg Daze provides over 250 programs geared towards students to connect, explore and get involved in their University community. We celebrate Huskies young and old through our events.

  Quad Flicks is a free-movie night on a giant blow-up screen in the Quad. Volunteers and staff members greet students and give away bags of treats to enjoy during the film.

  When the Husky football team hits the road, the UWAA organizes popular pre-game tailgate parties for UW alumni and friends. Warm Ups feature performances by the Husky Marching Band and Cheer Squad, souvenir giveaways, refreshments and lots of Husky merchandise.

  Volunteers assist with event set-up and clean-up, entrance gate duties and represent the alumni association from beginning to end. Free admission into the Warm Up is included.

• Dawg Dash
  
  Since 1986, the UWAA has presented Dawg Dash, a 10K/5K race/walk that raises money for student scholarships. The race, which winds through the UW's scenic Seattle campus, draws over 2,300 students, alumni and friends from around the state.

  Volunteers work the day of the event, helping with registration, check-in, set-up and clean-up and cheering on the participants.

Off-campus Opportunities

• MLK Day of Service
  
  The Carlson Leadership & Public Service Center and UWAA offer alumni the chance to make meaningful connections with students while contributing to the Seattle community through the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.

  On Jan. 15, the national MLK holiday, join fellow UW community members and volunteer to work on one of the dozens of projects around the region.
