Coaches Tour Volunteer Job Description

Program Description

Since 1971, Coaches Tour has brought together UW alumni, friends and Husky coaches for a day of golf, followed by an evening dinner banquet that helps support student scholarships. These events, held each spring at various locations across the state, are co-sponsored by the UWAA and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Proceeds from Coaches Tour events provide scholarships for UW students from the regions where each event was held.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the UWAA events and fundraising teams in organizing the event in your region
  • Secure hole sponsorships for the golf tournament and increase community awareness of your Coaches Tour event
  • Assist the UWAA in procurement of raffle prizes
  • Serve as a communications link to UWAA regional volunteers (where applicable), UW alumni and friends of the University in your region
  • Work with the UWAA event coordinator on golf pairings or establish all golf pairings in accordance with guidelines set by the UWAA and ICA
  • Provide post-activity evaluation to the alumni association upon completion of the event
  • Provide an accurate roster of Coaches Tour regional volunteers to the UWAA and update as changes occur throughout the year
  • Be listed in Columns magazine and on the UWAA Web site as a Coaches Tour regional contact

Optional Responsibility

  • Provide input to UWAA regarding scholarship allocation

  • Commitment to the mission, vision and values of the UWAA
  • Communication, decision-making skills and ability to work effectively with a team
  • Passion for raising scholarship funds for students in your region
  • Organization and self-motivation
  • Connections and influence in your region
  • Ability to make the necessary time commitment
  • Current alumni association membership strongly preferred
  • Desire to have fun and support Husky pride!

Time Commitment

The time commitment needed to ensure a successful Coaches Tour event varies by location and number of volunteers involved. It can be as much as 5-10 hours per week in the weeks preceding the tournament (January through June).

Dates and Locations

Coaches Tour takes place in the spring. Current stops include Tacoma, Everett, Bellingham, Spokane, Yakima, Port Orchard and Longview. Past stops have included Vancouver, Portland and Olympia.
