How can I buy something from Surplus Property?
Surplus Property is first made available to UW
departments and Government Agencies
(both State and Federal) for use within that department or agency.
Surplus property is also made available to eligible Non-Profit
Organizations. The warehouse is open for Non-Profit sales
on Wednesday afternoons.
The general public and private businesses can only make purchases
at the public store and our public
auctions. Where are you located?

Am I required to pay Washington State Sales tax on purchases made at UW Surplus?
Yes, Washington State sales tax will be applied to all invoices as per the Washington State Department of Revenue. This policy does not apply to University of Washington departmental budget sales.
If I am a reseller or believe that I am tax exempt, what do I need to do to qualify for tax exemption for my purchases at UW Surplus?
Resellers and buyers who wish to qualify for tax exemption are required to complete a resale certificate or tax exemption certificate prior to purchase and have it on file with UW Surplus.
Do I have to pick up my store purchases on the same day?
No. You have until the Friday after the public store to pick up your items. If you cannot have the items picked up in this time frame please call to make arrangements, or the items will be resold.
Store pickup hours: Tuesday 12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., and Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Items must be removed by Friday at 3:30 p.m.

Can I throw my excess property away?
No. There are State as well as Federal rules and regulations that govern how University property can be disposed. Departments must dispose of their excess property through the Surplus Property program. |
