Welcome to the Office Of Risk ManagementThe Office of Risk Management is responsible for organizing, coordinating, and carrying out programs to control the risks to which departments and, ultimately, the University are exposed. Review by the Office of Risk Management is important whenever an activity or program is proposed that will involve a significant risk of bodily injury or property damage. The Office of Risk Management also manages all claims and lawsuits which allege that negligence resulted in injury or property damage to third parties. Claims include: professional liability, general liability, auto liability and employment practices liability. The Office of Risk Management also handles claims for insured risks, such as workers’ compensation claims and claims for damage to insured University equipment or property. Our services include: Both University of Washington Medical Center and Harborview
Medical Center have risk management departments that specialize in
risk management related to patient care: Optional Field Trip Insurance (AD&D Benefits)The University of Washington offers optional field trip insurance for its students, guests and employees. Domestic policy covers the Continental United States, Alaska and Hawaii and coverage is for accidents only, not sickness. Please see below for detailed information and application forms: Foreign field trip coverage is no longer offered (effective April 1, 2006). Alternatives can be found at the UW International Programs & Exchanges website. Field Trip GuideField or research trip planning frequently raises questions about liability or insurance. Our Field Trip Guide is intended to provide quick answers to the most commonly asked questions, and make it easier to find answers to the more uncommon ones. Note: the term ‘field trip’ as used in this guide encompasses all trips by University faculty, staff and students in support of the University’s educational and research missions. ‘Field trips’ which last longer than one quarter are probably out of state or foreign business operations, and you should contact the Director, Risk Financing, Office of Risk Management at (206) 543-2033, for specific liability and insurance information pertaining to them.
