Web Site Accessibility Assistance

Section 508, a Congressional amendment to the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, requires that Federal agencies make their electronic and information technology accessible to people with disabilities. Web sites on the University of Washington web servers must meet these requirements.

Web Development can assist you in building an accessible web site or help you modify your current site to meet these requirements. We can assure that your web site:

  • Has a consistent, easy to navigate page structure
  • Uses color that does not affect page readability and navigation
  • Uses standard, well-supported web technologies (HTML, CSS, Javascript, Perl CGI)
  • Includes standard text navigation in addition to image maps and Javascript navigation
  • Uses "ALT" tags within image tags
  • Includes descriptive text with displayed images
  • Meets Bobby accessibility guidelines
