NOTE: The UW Signature Columns style is no longer available for use. The University of Washington has undergone a logo/graphic restructuring initiated by President Emmert. This restructuring grew out of concerns that multiple logos were in use to represent the University. In creating a stronger identity, the University chose to invest in a mark that has been a symbol of the institution since 1902 — the block W logo. This logo has been updated with the addition of a wordmark, creating a signature logo system that is flexible for a wide range of use.

Business Card Styles UW Signature (W) Style Cards (3.5 x 2 inches) The new UW Signature (W) Style business card incorporates the block W logo with the addition of a wordmark. The W style prints in PMS 273 (UW Purple) and black on 80# Classic Crest bright white PC 100 cover. The basic elements of the card include: The block W: The University logo has been the symbol of the UW since 1902 and is the foundation of the signature logo system. Wordmark: The University Wordmark was designed using a combination of two fonts. Specific attention was given to letterspacing and presentation - for print as well as electronic communications - therefore the font has been modified. This modification means the University Wordmark is no longer a font but a graphic element, and must remain as such to ensure its integrity. University Seal Card (3.5 x 2 inches) The University Seal was adopted in 1862 by the first Board of Regents to represent official business of the University. A university's seal is different from the logo and is restricted to scholarly, ceremonial or executive leadership purposes - including diplomas, certificates, official University documents such as congratulations/appointment correspondence, contracts and legal records. As a trademarked and licensed mark, it may also be used, with authorization, as a design element on selected merchandise. Overuse diminishes the Seal's importance and historical significance and should be used sparingly and with great care. The seal is intended to be reserved for diplomas, formal University correspondence, and official documents and publications. The UW logotype: When the formal name of the University is set in the Palatino typeface as shown with its unique letter and word spacing, it is known as the official logotype.
