Submitting Electronic Files to Creative Communications

Exchange your electronic files with ease using Creative Communications' Web File Transfer and FTP services.

Web File Transfer

Creative Communications' expanded online ordering service allows for the secure transfer of electronic documents via your web-browser. It is a quick and easy way to send a few small documents to UW Copy Centers or Mail Preparations Services. For most users there will be no need to use special FTP software or maintain a separate FTP username and password. Our Web File Transfer service will use your existing web-browser and be secured by your UWNetID.

How to use the Web File Transfer application:

The Web File Transfer application allows you to submit electronic files for your jobs with Creative Communications. You can send files for an existing project, or start a new project and add copy, mailing and print requests to that project as necessary.

  1. To begin, visit: http://weborder2.pubserv.washington.edu/wft.
  2. The Overview Screen allows you to choose the job to which you want to send your files.
  3. The Contact Screen collects the information needed to contact you about your project. Information collected will be used solely to expedite the production of your job and will not be shared with any other parties. The information can also be stored in a personal Client Profile and recalled at a future date for convenient time savings.
  4. The Upload Screen allows you to specify how many files you want to submit (up to 10), select the files from your computer, and indicate if they are for a copy, print or mailing job.
  5. This Results Screen allows you to review the status of sent files.

File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

FTP is a convenient way to exchange files with Creative Communications staff. Use it to send mailing lists to Mailing Services, office documents to Copy Services, or desktop publishing files to printing services. Access your files anytime, from anywhere.

The FTP method is best suited to accommodate the "Power User" who is sending large files, or a lot of them, to Printing or Copy Services.

Note: While Creative Communications maintains an FTP server, we actively encourage the use of Web File Transfer. FTP is an insecure protocol, involving the installation and maintenance of special software (an FTP client), and requiring users to maintain a username and password.

If you have already tried Web File Transfer and still want an FTP account, you can request one online.

How to use FTP:

  1. Visit Creative Communications' webpage and request an FTP account here: http://weborder2.pubserv.washington.edu/wft/ftprequest.cfm.
  2. The username and password you choose will be saved in an easily accessible location that only you can access. No more worrying about losing or forgetting either.
  3. Appropriate software is necessary to use the FTP method. The University provides this with the UW Internet Connectivity Kit (UWICK), which is a CD containing software that gives students, faculty and staff access to networked communication and information services. The kit is available as a free download; for more information about UWICK, visit: http://www.washington.edu/computing/software/uwick/.
  4. Once your FTP account is approved, you can quickly and easily send, store and receive files related to your project.
