Protection of intellectual property rights is important to the University of Washington and to Creative Communications. To facilitate the use of copyright-protected materials in printed course packets, Copy Services (a division of Creative Communications) has established the University of Washington Copyright Permissions Center (CPC). This clearance service is available to anyone preparing course materials (Course Packs) to be sold at the University Book Store..

We make it easy for you because the CPC will:

• contact the publishers for permission to copy material
• initiate follow-up phone contact to ensure prompt service
• calculate and pay the proper royalties
• print the Course Pak materials
• sell the Course Packs at the University Book Store
• the cost of these services are incorporated in the price of the Course Pak

Copyright Clearance Procedures

Copyright permission request forms are available at all campus copy centers or can be downloaded from this web site. You may also call 206-685-7969. Call us and we'll arrange to pick up your completed order form and materials, or you can leave them at any Copy Center.

• Fill out a copyright permissions request form, listing each item which requires copyright clearance. Be sure to include the title, author, page numbers, publisher, and copyright date.
• Most articles are cleared very quickly. Due to high volumes prior to the start of the quarter, we request information two weeks prior to the start of the quarter. As always, whenever we receive your materials, we will do our best to ensure that your Course Pack is available to students before the first day of class. (see back page calendar). This will allow enough time for us to obtain copyright permissions and reproduce the material.
• If you wish to obtain your own permission, you may do so. Simply include the written permission when submitting your course materials. However, material requiring royalty payments must be processed by CPC, if the cost is to be included in the Course Pak price.
