How do I avoid getting a parking ticket on campus?
Pay attention to signs at the entrances to campus and posted at or near the lot in which you park your car. Leave your car in a marked parking stall (bumper blocks or painted lines). If parking where and when a permit is required, purchase a permit and display it face up, as directed on the permit.

What circumstances might result in the impoundment of a car?

Any vehicle may be impounded twenty days after service of a "Final Notice", imposing liability for fines that the owner has neither paid or appealed. Such vehicles may be held until all delinquent fines are paid.

What is the most commonly issued parking violation (reason)?
"Parking with no valid permit displayed" - $25.00 if paid in 20 days. After 20 days include a $10.00 late fee.

How many parking tickets are issued on campus each year?
66,482 tickets were issued in 1999 - 73,217 in 1998 and 68,247 in 1997.

How is the money that is paid in parking fines used?
It is used to subsidize low-cost bus passes for students, faculty, and staff. It also funds the Handicap Shuttle program and helps fund the Health Sciences Express Busses.

Is it OK to use my skateboard to get from class to class?
Yes. Skateboard use in pedestrian areas, including but not limited to walkways, ramps, concourses, and plazas such as "Red Square" and on internal university streets and loading areas on campus is restricted solely to transporting an individual from one campus destination to another. Any recreational, athletic, or other exhibition use of skateboards unrelated to transportation is strictly prohibited, unless expressly approved in advance. Yield to pedestrians. Don't ride in restricted areas. Avoid unsafe behavior.

Can I lock my bicycle to a tree or handrail, while I am in class? Can I leave my bicycle in my office during the day or in an out-of-the-way stairwell?
Bicycles may be ridden any place where vehicles are permitted. Bicycles shall be parked only in bicycle racks or lockers. At no time shall a bicycle be parked in a building except where bicycle storage rooms are provided.
