Legislation Affecting UW

Engrossed Substitute Senate Bill (ESSB) 5460 and House Bill (HB) 2328: Signed into law on February 18, 2009, and later modified by HB 2328 (4-30-09), this legislation restricted state entities’ wage increases, hiring, and spending. While wage increase restrictions remain in effect through February 18, 2010 for all non-classified employees, including faculty and staff, all other provisions of ESSB 5460 and HB 2328 expired effective July 1, 2009. Note that local UW restrictions on equipment purchases, travel, training, contracts and hiring may remain in effect, so please consult with your local administrator if you have questions. The following document reflects the UW's position on bills affecting the University, as well as bill sponsorship and legislative hearing information.
