Benjamin Hall Interdisciplinary Research Building Assumptions:

To calculate the annual facilities portion of indirect cost and how much space a research grant can afford, use the Estimated Cost Analysis Tool

Occupants pay for their research space in the Benjamin Hall Interdisciplinary Research Building from the Facilities (Building, Operations and Maintenance, Depreciation and Interest components) and Equipment portions of a grant's indirect cost. (It excludes the Libraries component.) For more information about the components of indirect cost, see the Indirect Cost primer..

If the full cost cannot be paid for by the grant, the occupants may identify an alternative source of funds to which rent can be charged.

Another alternative is to pay for all or part of the tenant improvement costs thereby reducing ongoing charges. Contact the Benjamin Hall Interdisciplinary Research Building contacts in the Capital and Space Planning Office with questions.

Occupants determine how much space they can afford and have some discretion over the TI build-out costs (dry lab, wet lab or office) for the research space.
