Announcements Dr. Hall is a professor in the Departments of Biology and Genome Sciences. He joined the University of Washington as an associate professor in the Genetics Department in 1963, serving as chair from 1970 to 1985. In 1981, he and fellow scientists produced human interferon in simple baker’s yeast, leading to two inventions that allow the use of yeast cells to make a Hepatitis B vaccine, human insulin, and human serum albumin. Dr. Hall was honored in 2004 with the first University of Washington Inventor of the Year Award. The University Names Committee reviewed and unanimously approved the proposal by the College of Arts and Sciences that the Research and Technology Building be named the “Benjamin Hall Interdisciplinary Research Building.” |
