- What form should be submitted when a Non-Resident Alien individual
change his or her name?
If a Non-Resident Alien individual changes their name, the individual must
to get a new Social Security Card and the name change needs to be done by
the Payroll Coordinator in the OPUS system after making a copy of the new
SS card. There is no need to submit an I-9 to the payroll office.
- How to handle individuals with double citizenship?
The UW Payroll Office does not handle this issue. If the individual has a
US citizenship, he/she will not be a Non-Resident Alien. This is a tax
advice issue that is better handle by a tax adviser.
- What form should be submitted to the payroll office if an NRA
changes
immigration status?
Form 1388 should be submitted.
- If the NRA has submitted an application for a SS card but has not
received the card. Would the Payroll Office accept a letter from the
Social Security Administration confirming that the NRA has applied for a
SS# and withhold at 14% instead of at 30%?
If the letter includes their name and the number, the Payroll Office will
accept this.
