Human Resources coordinates the layoff of professional and classified staff. Classified staff reductions in per cent time or months worked are treated as layoffs.
Employees who are laid off, including classified staff who are reduced in per cent time or months worked will receive approximately 30 calendar days official written notice of layoff before the anticipated last day of employment. Managers are encouraged to provide these employees with as much informal notice of layoff as possible.
A professional staff employee who has been notified of layoff, who has the right of reversion to the classified service, but who cannot be placed in a classified position must then be laid off as classified staff. In such cases the employee will receive the actual layoff notice required by the applicable labor contract or civil service rule for the classified layoff.
Refer employees to the information published on the Human Resources website about the layoff process. If employees do not have access to a computer, please print out the relevant web pages for them.
