Instead of choosing a service recognition gift for a milestone service award, you have the option of applying the value of the gift to one of the other recognition options described below. Selecting one of the other recognition options instead of a service recognition gift will not have tax implications for you.
The service recognition options are:
This option is available only to Seattle campus employees. The Husky Card is a recognized means of paying for certain Seattle campus transactions. The the value of your service award can be placed in your UW Husky Card Account to be used at participating venues.
To select this award option, on the Service Award Selection Form that your department's service recognition coordinator will give you before your milestone anniversary, enter a check in the space provided and return the form to your service recognition coordinator. The coordinator for your department will process your selection and you will receive information on how and where to use your Husky Dollars.
If Husky Dollars in an employee's account are left unspent, no cash refund is made.

Husky Athletics is a traditional part of the University community. If you are a fan, you can apply the value of your award toward the purchase of a ticket(s) to a UW athletic event. If you choose this award option, you must be redeem it within 12 months of the date on the your service award presentation document, and you must show your staff ID card to redeem the award.
The award may be used for one transaction only. If the purchase price of the ticket(s) is less than the actual value of the award, there is no cash refund, and no remaining credit that can be applied to future ticket purchases. If the ticket price exceeds the value of the award you will need to make up the difference. See Intercollegiate Athletics for ticket prices and availability.

Subject to ticket availability, the dollar value of the award may be applied toward ticket purchase to any event.
Many staff members are also enthusiastic University supporters and requested to be able to use the value of their service recognition gift to support the University. You can donate your gift's value to one of the many funds and scholarships that support University students and departments.
To select this award option, on the Service Award Selection Form that your department's service recognition coordinator will give you before your milestone anniversary, enter a check in the space provided, write in the name of the fund you have selected, and return the form to your service recognition coordinator. Browse the list of funds to select a fund from among the approximately 4000 funds available.
The coordinator will process your selection and the value of your award will be transferred to the fund you have selected. You will receive an acknowledgment of the donation.
UW Performing Arts Programs are recognized throughout the University community and the region. You can apply the value of your gift toward the purchase of a ticket(s) to an upcoming UW Performing Arts Event. If you choose this award option, you must redeem it within 12 months of the date on the your service award presentation document, and you must show your staff ID card to redeem the award.
Your award may be used for one transaction only. If the purchase price of the ticket(s) is less than the value of the award, there is no cash refund and no remaining credit that can be applied to future ticket purchases. If the purchase price exceeds the value of the award, you will need to make up the difference. Check with the UW Arts Ticket Office regarding ticket prices and availability.
