Other Employment Categories

UNDERSTAND

Besides contract classified, classified non-union, professional staff, and librarian employment categories, there are a number of other employment categories within the University of Washington (UW), some of which are described below.

Information about leave benefits for these categories can be found through the links provided.

Academic Student Employees

Academic Student Employees are covered by a labor contract. Leave provisions for Academic Student Employees are covered in Article 16 of the contract.

Faculty

Faculty leave information is maintained by Academic Human Resources.

Medical Residents & Fellows

Residents and fellows are eligible for leave benefits as provided by their residency or fellowship position appointment. For leave information contact:

Student Hourly & Student Work-study

A student employee is any UW matriculated student who is registered for at least six (6) credits, who is employed in a student job title at the UW, and who is not considered an "Academic Student Employee."

Student employees are not eligible for any leave or other employee benefits. Student employees are eligible for unpaid pregnancy disability leave as described by Washington State law (WAC 162-30-020) and also may be eligible for certain unpaid leave under the provisions of the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).

Temporary Hourly

Temporary Hourly employees are not eligible for any paid annual leave, sick leave or holidays.

Temporary hourly employees are eligible for unpaid pregnancy disability leave as described by Washington State law (WAC 162-30-020) and also may be eligible for certain unpaid leave under the provisions of the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
