Be an Informed Husky: Attend a SafeCampus Training
The SafeCampus helpline 206-685-SAFE(7233) is available 24/7 when you have concerns of potential violence. If you feel that you or someone else is at risk you don't have to deal with it alone. Call us to discuss options, connect with resources, and find a creative solution to the situation. To learn more, attend a SafeCampus Violence Prevention and Response training and get the information you need to be an informed member of the UW community. You will learn what behaviors to contact SafeCampus about and what resources are available on campus. The training will discuss relationship violence, staking, suicide, and general warning signs of distress. There will also be a brief portion on response to an active shooter.

Building Self-Esteem in Children
All children need love, appreciation, and positive attention. Yet, how often do parents forget to use words of encouragement such as, "that's right," "wonderful," or "good job?" No matter the age of children or adolescents, good parent-child communication is essential for raising children with self-esteem and confidence. This month's Balanced Living provides guidance in building self-esteem, and the tip sheet provides more advice in how to support your kids' talents in a healthy way.

In this Webinar, you will learn to identify two essential features of parenting and how they affect parenting styles, understand how a parenting style contributes to – or helps prevent – power struggles between parent and child, and create reasonable expectations for yourself and your child. Ubuntu Exhibition at the UW Tower
Come experience the Ubuntu Exhibition, a partnership between the UW Tower Art Committee and C Art Gallery, between July 12 and September 28 on the 4th floor of the UW Tower. Ubuntu is an ancient African word meaning "humanity to others" and "I am what I am because of who we all are." LaQuita S. Thurman, the exhibit's curator, hopes the featured works speak to this humanity that is within all of us, inspiring individuals, families, and communities to come together. Support the University District Food Bank's Rooftop Garden
After many years of serving clients in an 800 square foot area in a church basement, University District Food Bank (UDFB) has moved to a new space at 5017 Roosevelt Way NE which includes a roof top garden that will grow more than 10,000 pounds of produce, the most in-demand food item, annually. UDFB is in need of immediate support for the garden, and time is of the essence in order to launch the first growing season. You can help the University District Food Bank reach its goal by making a donation today via the UW Combined Fund Drive and designating Rooftop Roots. The rooftop garden is an investment in sustainability for the University District Food Bank, its clients, and community. UDFB staff, volunteers, community partners, and students will work together to grow the produce customers and their families need to thrive.
