Retirement Saving Tips
This month, UW CareLink offers tips on setting financial goals:

  1. Take inventory—Make a list of all debts, all variable and fixed expenses, and all of your sources of income.
  2. Analyze—With your total debts, expenses, and income, play around with different scenarios depending on your goals. How do you allocate your money coming in against money going out?
  3. Identify a plan—A common strategy is to pay yourself first. Commit to an amount and then write out a check or transfer funds to your savings account just like you would a bill.
  4. Put it into practice—It can be hard to adjust to a new budget or doing without certain perks. But it gets easier and you may find you don’t even miss last month’s must-have.
  5. Find resources—It’s natural to feel stressed by personal finances. Remember you may call UW CareLink (866-598-3978) to set up a free 30-minute telephone consultation with a CPA or certified financial professional.

It can bring a new living environment, a chance to explore interests, or maybe even a new career. Investigate these topics and more to better prepare you for the years to come. The webinar will be offered on Tuesday, June 18 at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. PT.

To register, visit www.apshelplink.com (enter “UW” as the company code). Look for Online Seminars in the lower right-hand corner of the homepage. Advanced registration is required for this live broadcast. The webinar will also be archived and available for viewing by the beginning of July.

Puget Sound Blood Center is one of more than 4,000 charitable nonprofits in the UW Combined Fund Drive campaign.

Help Feed Hungry Kids This Summer
Did you know that many children who rely on school breakfast go hungry when summer starts? Last year, almost half of all Washington public school children were eligible for free or reduced price meals. However, less than 10% have access to any summer meals program, so families struggle even harder to feed their children.

Good food matters most for kids. Children from food-insecure households have two to four times as many physical problems as their peers as well as more behavioral, emotional, and cognitive disorders.

Northwest Harvest needs summer food help! You can make a difference by providing nutritious, kid-friendly snacks and meals such as granola, applesauce, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, canned meats, easy-open soups and stews, dried fruit, cereal, and shelf-stable milk. Find a drop site near you on this list.

You can also support Northwest Harvest through the UW Combined Fund Drive. Your donation helps Northwest Harvest use its buying power to purchase kid-friendly summer foods.
