The University of Washington, along with federal, state, labor, and community-based service organizations, has put together this "Pre-Layoff Presentation" of services that may be useful to you in your transition to your next job. This presentation will feature service providers explaining programs and answering your questions. Washington State Employment Security Department This is the state's single largest employment agency and the department that handles your Unemployment Insurance benefits. The most frequently asked questions about unemployment will be answered; how to calculate your benefits will be shown; and answers to your questions will be given. WorkSource Seattle-King County Seven WorkSource sites across King County provide free services for those looking for work including access to computers, job listings, workshops, labor market information, opportunities to network with on-site employers, and 20 partner programs offering counseling assistance in reemployment. King County Reemployment Support Center - Worker Center, AFL-CIO You will be given the current issue of "The Job Seekers' Update"-the quintessential quarterly resource guide to free and low-cost job search assistance and local programs in the Puget Sound Area. You will also receive the address for S.T.E.P., Searching for Training and Employment Programs, the on-line, internet guide to area resources for career planning, job search assistance, job skills training, apprenticeships, and self-employment. Some important strategies for workers setting up a job search plan will also be discussed. King County's Community & Technical Colleges The state-funded Worker Retraining program-available at each of King County's eleven community & technical colleges-helps dislocated workers secure job training that may be needed to get to their next job. Services also may include career planning and placement, job search instruction, and financial assistance.
