CFD609: Meet Low Income Housing Institute and Urban Rest Stop

Description:

This month's "Meet the Charities" workshop features Low Income Housing Institute and Urban Rest Stop, part of the Housing Development Consortium of Seattle-King County.

The Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) provides homeless and low-income families and individuals with an affordable place to live, along with the support they need to regain their stability and build better lives.

LIHI also owns and operates Urban Rest Stop in downtown Seattle, a much-needed hygiene facility for homeless individuals and families. Many of the patrons seek shelter in doorways, parks, freeway underpasses, cars, and empty buildings with no access to safe and sanitary facilities. The Urban Rest Stop offers free restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities within a clean, safe, and dignified environment.

This is the sixth in a series of free monthly workshops where guest charities share how giving and volunteers have made a positive impact on their mission. Offered to UW faculty and staff by the UW Combined Fund Drive (UWCFD.)
