2007 Benchmark Title: ASSISTANT DEAN - SENIOR DIRECTOR DEVELOPMENT

2007 Job Summary: Functions as the chief development officer for a unit of considerable size and diversity. Responsible for all aspects of development for the unit, sets development goals, and administers a plan/program to achieve goals (usually $5 million or more). Manages the activities of support staff and development officers specializing in a particular aspect(s) of development (e.g. major gifts, corporate/ foundation relations, annual giving, etc.). Interacts with prospects and donors at all levels, with special emphasis on fostering major gifts. Participates in and/or directs the unit's communications and community relations activities.
Reports to: Unit Dean and the Associate VP of Constituency Programs
Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor's degree and seven years of progressively responsible experience in development.

2007 Benchmark Title: ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT DEVELOPMENT - CORPORATE and FOUNDATION RELATIONS

2007 Job Summary: Senior official responsible for planning, managing and directing the corporate and foundation support program for the entire institution/organization. Manages professionals and support staff responsible for identifying and fostering prospects and supporting the achievement of program goals and objectives. Works with unit-level development officers and their unit heads to coordinate and increase corporate and foundation support for priority needs. Assumes primary role in identifying and managing prospects for personal caseload and secondary role in total overall management (including tracking) of all corporate and foundation accounts.
Reports to: Associate Vice President of Constituency Programs
Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor's degree and seven years of progressively responsible experience in development with five years focused in corporate and foundation fundraising.

2007 Benchmark Title: DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

2007 Job Summary: Under the direction of the unit's Chief Development and Community Relations Officer the position develops and administers fundraising programs and activities to support the unit's overall development program. Position may be focused in a specialty of development (e.g. annual giving, corporate and foundation relations). Undertakes and manages special project specific fund-raising campaigns as assigned. Develops goals and strategies, plans, organizes and directs the project and/or fundraising campaign. May serve as the schools annual giving development officer. Liaison to the central annual giving office regarding direct mail and telepledge programs. Identifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards individuals capable of making $1,000 and $2,000 level gifts. Emphasis is on securing multi-year pledges. Generates new leads for major gift prospects through annual giving activities. Works with major gift officer in developing and executing solicitation strategies. Assists in cultivating potential donors to the unit through coordinating and participating in special activities and events. Represents the unit and the institution community and professional functions as appropriate.
Reports to: Chief Development and Community Relations Officer
Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor's degree and four years experience in development work, or comparable sales/marketing experience. Prior experience in annual giving or corporate/foundation relations is highly desirable.

2007 Benchmark Title: MAJOR GIFTS OFFICER

2007 Job Summary: Works with the unit's Chief Development and Community Relations Officer, unit leaders, volunteers and other development staff to identify, cultivate, and solicit major gift prospects for gifts in support of a school or college. Plays a key role in developing a strategic plan for the unit's overall development effort, has a leadership role for implementing parts of the resulting plan. Identifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards major gift prospects, including members of the business community, or other key users of the unit's services as appropriate. Develops and implements a solicitation strategy for each assigned major gift prospect. Prepares written proposals, informational materials, endowment agreements, gift illustrations and other materials needed to secure major gifts. Provides strategic leadership to unit's management and staff in designing and implementing development programs needed to sustain major gift support. Coordinates their participation in major fundraising activities. Dovetails development activities of the unit with the programs and services of the central development office. Participates in the marketing materials for the major gift effort, and major gift cultivation and stewardship activities and events.

Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor's degree and five years of experience in development work, or comparable experience in a competitive sales/marketing role.
