HEALTH CARE SPECIALIST LEAD – In-patient or Emergency Department

BASIC FUNCTION
Lead Health Care Specialists in an in-patient or Emergency Department, direct the work of other assigned staff, act as unit liaison, perform educational and preceptor role;
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Regularly assign, instruct and review the work of Health Care Specialists and/or other assigned staff in an in-patient or Emergency Department characterized by a 24 Hour/7 Days a week operational environment; function under general direction of an attending physician;
TYPICAL WORK
Regularly assign, instruct and check the work of assigned employees;
Direct the preparation and maintenance of schedules and staff assignments;
Assist in the selection and evaluation process of Health Care Specialists and support personnel;
Act as unit liaison with community agencies;
Develop educational programs for staff including orientation and continuing education;
Develop and prepare reports;
Conduct needs assessments;
Coordinate the preparation of statistics;
Perform duties of the Health Care Specialist;
May serve as a clinical preceptor and/or function as a teaching resource for other health care professionals during clinical rotation;
Perform related duties as required;
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified
Licensure as either an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in the State of Washington, or as a Physician's Assistant (PA) in the State of Washington; a Master's Degree in a related field and one year of experience as a Health Care Associate or equivalent, OR two years of experience as a Health Care Specialist or equivalent; must be eligible to receive hospital staff appointments for adjunct staff membership by the organized medical staff of the hospital under Medical Staff By-Laws for Hospital-based positions.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
