DEFINITION
Perform maintenance and fueling of high-pressure steam boilers and related plant equipment.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Positions in this class perform routine operation, maintenance and cleaning of power plant equipment under supervision.
TYPICAL WORK
Fire boilers with natural gas, coal, or oil as selected by operating engineers;
Inspect water level gauges on boilers;
Change recording charts and take fuel and steam readings;
Assist in disassembling and repairing boilers and power plant equipment for cleaning and replacement of working parts;
Clean and oil firing equipment;
Inspect fuel consumption; change adjustment on fuel burners for best efficiency;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified
One year of experience in firing high-pressure boilers or equivalent training and all necessary applicable city/municipal licensing.
Examination Requirements:
A job element examination (including written, E & T and oral components) scored on the basis of job related experience, training, skill, ability and other elements which are established through job analysis.
