MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEAD

DEFINITION

Lead and work with journey trades workers performing skilled maintenance work in the repair, remodeling, and construction of buildings, ground, facilities and equipment.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Positions in this class are distinguished by the responsibility to lead journey-level trades workers at a project or job location, to instruct workers, correct and specify methods, and to perform skilled maintenance work.

TYPICAL WORK

Perform maintenance, operation, and repair of electrical, mechanical and structural systems of buildings and utility distribution;

Plan, layout, direct, and inspect the work of journey-level trades workers;

Recommend repairs in maintenance work and consult with supervisors on project requirements; determine material and manpower requirements and make estimates;

Attend and give technical training courses; keep records and make reports as required;

Act as a project lead for assigned job order work of a complex nature;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified

One years full-time experience as a Maintenance Mechanic II, journey-level trades worker, or equivalent. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Examination Requirements:

A job element examination (including written, E & T and oral components) scored on the basis of job related experience, training, skill, ability and other elements which are established through job analysis.
