BASIC FUNCTION
Operate, load, and unload large trucks and vans in the transfer and delivery of freight items, warehouse supplies, building furnishings, and construction material; or drive medium or large buses in the transport of passengers.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Under general supervision, operate motor vehicles of more than one ton capacity; or buses with a capacity of more than 25 passengers.
TYPICAL WORK
Regularly drive various large vehicles such as flatbeds, dump trucks, and large delivery vans more than one ton in capacity, or medium or large buses;
Pick up and deliver items such as livestock, steel and iron supplies, sheet metal, bulk furniture, large barrels, chemical containers, custodial supplies, laboratory equipment, and parcel post packages;
Load and unload vehicle; transport freight to appropriate designation;
Make periodic deliveries and pickups from central warehouses or off-site vendor outlets;
Assist others in the movement and storage of furniture, supplies, and equipment;
Use hand dollies, wheel dollies, pallet jacks, hydraulic lifts, and forklift trucks incidental to transport of supplies and equipment;
May maintain records of goods received and delivered and vehicle service records;
May handle and transport hazardous materials;
May assist passengers getting on and off buses or vans;
Perform duties of a Truck Driver I;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified
One year of full-time experience as a Truck Driver or similar work OR equivalent education/experience AND possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license with an intermediate or equivalent endorsement.
