BASIC FUNCTION

Lead and participate in the preparation and serving of food, or function as a cook's or baker's helper.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Regularly assign, instruct and check the work of others or function as assistant to full-time cooks or bakers.

TYPICAL WORK

Perform duties as a cook's or baker's helper or serve as a lead employee in food preparation and serving and/or dishwashing;

Weigh, prepare, and serve meals to meet special diet requirements;

Participate in cleaning work area and equipment;

May check food on each patient's tray against diet menu on tray and ask tray line employees to make correction;

May function as grill cook for simple short-order items;

May take cash payment for meals;

May operate cooking and kitchen equipment;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified

Possession of, or eligible for, a food handler's permit AND one year of experience in quantity or institutional food preparation and serving or equivalent education/experience.
