BASIC FUNCTION

Direct the operation of separate snack bar, fountain service or small dining area.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Regularly assign, instruct and check the work of others.

Under general supervision, be responsible for a food service areas remote from centralized dining areas.

TYPICAL WORK

Lead student employees and food service workers in operation of a remote food service area such as a snack bar counter, ice creamery, or soda fountain;

Direct and participate in the preparation of light lunches, grilled foods, soft drinks, ice cream dishes, and similar fountain/snack bar items;

Maintain quality and portion control and ensure use of standardized recipes and formulae;

Assure the cleaning of food service equipment and work areas; maintain compliance with sanitation and safety regulations;

Inspect food service equipment to determine proper care, use, and operation; report malfunctions;

Maintain security and care of china, silverware, furniture, and related property;

Refrigerate perishable foods and maintain proper storage of other foods and fountain supplies;

Receive cash payments and charge slips from customers; account for receipts at the termination of the work shift;

Participate directly in food preparation and serving;

May prepare reports as necessary;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified

Possession of food handler's permit AND two years of experience in food service work, including one year of lead experience, or equivalent education/experience.
