BASIC FUNCTION

Supervise a work of unit of a department within the University of Washington Medical Centers' Patient Financial Services organization;

DISTNIGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

With delegated authority, interview and recommend selection of applicants, conduct training, assign and schedule work, act upon leave requests, conduce annual performance evaluations and recommend disciplinary action.

Patient Financial Services Supervisors supervise the daily work flow of a unit of a department performing a patient accounting function for the University of Washington Medical Centers and serve as a resource for staff with regard to patient accounting rules and regulations and maximum computer system utilization within the work unit.

TYPICAL WORK

Review and approve patient accounting transactions processed by staff;

Coordinate and monitor daily work flow in unit and adjust work loads as necessary;

Develop and implement work methods and procedures for the staff;

Assist in development of productivity standards;

Monitor production of the unit to ensure goals are met;

Advise patients, third-party payers and agencies, and other Medical Centers' departments in technical matters related to the work of the unit;

Compose correspondence to patients and third-party payers and agencies;

Review and interpret rules and regulations which affect patient accounting and ensure work unit is in compliance;

Ensure capability of computer system is fully utilized in daily work;

Resolve patient accounts which are particularly difficult or sensitive;

May perform work of Patient Financial Services Specialist I, II;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS - Classified Non-Union

Two years of college-level courses AND two years of experience in patient accounting

OR

Equivalent education/experience.
