DEFINITION
Lead and instruct staff in collection activities.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Positions in this class are distinguished by the responsibility to lead the work of patient accounts collections staff; including training in proper collection procedures.
TYPICAL WORK
Serve as lead worker in patient accounts collections staff to ensure efficient workflow;
Instruct staff in collection procedures, including techniques of account analysis, patient contact, correspondence, account documentation, preparation for legal action and data processing input and output;
Review work of collections staff for conformity with institutional policies and procedures;
Resolve difficult collection problems as referred by staff;
Perform related duties as required, including general clerical tasks.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS - Classified Non-Union
High School diploma or GED certificate, plus eighteen months of experience as a Patient Collections Representative or equivalent. Six months' additional qualifying experience may be substituted for all required education.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
