DEFINITION

Set up and operate audio-visual film, and listening equipment and systems.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Positions in this class perform a variety of operational duties in listening laboratories, audio-visual centers, recreation areas, auditoriums, film studios, and classrooms.

TYPICAL WORK

Set up and operate equipment such as film and slide projectors, record players, tape recorders, video-tape playbacks and public address systems; may set up and dismantle staging;

program audio-visual materials for various subject matter; record master tapes and duplicates of programs and speeches; catalogue and maintain inventory of tapes; assist professors, staff, and students with special class projects related to magnetic recording; monitor studio suede equipment;

Check equipment, staging, and material prior to program to assure correct and timely presentation; make simple on the spot changes or repairs to equipment and staging to assure proper setting and continuous operation; return equipment and material after use;

Confer with users; ascertain program requirements and assure that requirements are met; may order films, tapes, and supplies incidental to operator duties; may assist producers/directors in phases of TV/film production;

Perform simple maintenance to assigned equipment;

may train and lead part-time assistants in equipment delivery and operation;

May be responsible for circulation procedures for audio-visual materials;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS - Classified Non-Union

High School, technical or vocational school graduate or GED certificate. Successful completion of an on-the-job training program in applicable equipment operations may substitute for required education.

EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS

A job element examination (including written, E & T and oral components) scored on the basis of job related experience, training, skill, ability, and other elements which are established through job analysis.
