BASIC FUNCTION

Design and coordinate installation of major telecommunications projects.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Senior-level class of series. Design and coordinate installation of major telecommunications projects such as movement of an existing department to a new location, development of telecommunications systems in conjunction with new construction, total replacement of a system, etc. Conduct and present cost/benefit analyses. Conduct final acceptance testing of new or revised equipment and systems.

TYPICAL WORK

Design reconfigurations of and/or new additions to major telephone equipment and systems; develop telecommunications systems in conjunction with new construction;

Assist in establishing departmental policies and work methods;

Draft requests for proposals (RFPs) for telecommunications equipment and services, assist in proposal evaluations and vendor selections, assist in preparation of vendor contracts;

Conduct final acceptance testing of new or revised equipment and systems;

Prepare formal presentations on new or revised telecommunications systems, including cost/benefit analyses to departmental administrators;

May direct the work of lower level employees;

May perform duties of Telecommunications Analyst II;

Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS - Classified Non-Union

A Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Telecommunication Engineering or closely related field and four years of experience as a Telecommunications Analyst including two years as a Telecommunications Analyst II. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted, year-for-year for education, up to two years.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
