BASIC FUNCTION - Lead

Lead operators engaged in operating an institution telephone switching system.

BASIC FUNCTION - Hospital Lead

Lead operators engaged in operating a telephone switching system serving an institution and teaching hospital or medical center.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS - Lead

Under general supervision, lead Telephone Communications Operators.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS - Hospital Lead

Under general supervision, lead Telephone Communications Operators - Hospital.

TYPICAL WORK

Regularly assign, instruct and check the work of employees;

Assist in the training of Telephone Communications Operators/Telephone Communications Operators - Hospital; instruct on departmental, institution and emergency procedures;

Monitor Telephone Communications Operators/Telephone Communications Operators - Hospital to ensure that departmental, institutional and emergency procedures are followed; report problems to supervisors;

Perform the duties of Telephone Communications Operators/Telephone Communications- Operators - Hospital;

May issue pagers or keys in accordance with established procedures;

May monitor telecommunications equipment and initiate established procedures;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS - Classified Non-Union

High School Diploma, or GED Certificate; AND two years of experience as a Telephone Communications Operator/Telephone Communications Operator - Hospital. Six months of additional qualifying experience may substitute for required education.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
