Parking Citations for Nurses with Valid UW Parking Permits

Effective July 1, 2009, the parties agree that in the event that a nurse is requested to stay past his/her scheduled shift, the nurse will notify his/her manager (or designee) that his/her permit parking will expire. In response the manager (or designee) will notify Parking Services to preempt a parking citation. Should a parking citation be issued, the nurse must present the citation within 7 calendar days to his/her manager (or designee) who will arrange for payment by the employer.

Re: Section 7.12, Rest Periods/Breaks

In the Collective Bargaining agreement that expired on June 30, 2013, Section 7.12 Rest Periods/Breaks stated:

7.12 Rest Periods/Breaks.
Nurses in the bargaining unit shall be granted a fifteen-minute rest period within each four hour period. Nurses working a twelve-hour shift will receive three rest periods. Each unit will establish guidelines to enable nurses to take their breaks. A nurse who does not receive a break is obligated to bring it to the attention of unit management immediately, or by the end of the shift.

The parties to this LOU made changes to Section 7.121 Rest Periods/Breaks effective July 1, 2013. Section 7.12 now states:

7.12 Rest Periods/Breaks.
Nurses in the bargaining unit shall be granted a fifteen-minute rest period within each four hour period. Nurses working a twelve-hour shift will receive three rest periods. Each unit will establish guidelines to enable nurses to take their breaks. A nurse who does not receive a break is obligated to bring it to the attention of unit management immediately, or by the end of the shift. After August 19, 2013, a missed rest break not documented in Kronos by the nurse will be considered as taken for purposes of this section.

The parties agree that the agreed-upon changes to Section 7.12 above do not have any effect upon current grievance(s), litigation, arbitration, mediation or settlement talks by and between the parties concerning Rest Periods/Breaks at the University of Washington Medical Center.

In addition, the parties agree that by August 19, 2013, the Kronos system will include a clear and concise method of daily attestation that will be used by RNs to identify any/all missed rest periods/breaks.

1Section 7.12 has been renumbered to 7.11.
