2.1 Policy. Neither the Employer nor the Association shall discriminate against any nurse who may be a qualified disabled individual, a disabled veteran or a veteran of the Vietnam era or because of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or membership or non-membership in the Association.
A discrimination complaint may be filed with the University Complaint Investigation and Resolution Office (UCIRO) and/or as a grievance in accordance with Article 18 of this Agreement. Employees may also file discrimination complaints with appropriate federal or state agencies. The parties agree to encourage the filing of discrimination complaints through the University Complaint Investigation and Resolution Office.
2.2 Sexual Harassment. Prohibited sex discrimination includes sexual harassment, defined as the use of one's authority or power, either explicitly or implicitly, to coerce another into unwelcome sexual relations or to punish another for his/her refusal, or as the creation of an intimidating, hostile or offensive working or educational environment.
2.3 Ombudsman. Bargaining unit members may seek assistance from the University of Washington Ombudsmanís office (www.washington.edu/about/ombudsman/ or 206-543-6028).
