UW/UWPOA Contract (Effective 7/1/07 - 6/30/09)
Side Letter - Dispatchers

Currently, officers who are disabled from regular duties may return to work on a “light duty” status if there is work to be performed and they are able to perform the work. Light duty is generally reserved for relatively short defined periods of temporary inability to perform the requirements of the job. One of these light duty assignments includes working in the Communications Center.

There are also intermittent instances where it may be necessary to assign officers to the Communications Center where there are staffing shortages or where, on a spot basis, it is necessary for meal or relief purposes to assign an officer to dispatch.

The Department is committed to hiring a dispatch supervisor to minimize these coverage issues; however the Department reserves the right, at its discretion, to continue these coverage assignments as it may deem necessary. Every effort is being made to minimize the number of times an officer may have to fill in for coverage in the Communications Center.
