5.1 The Employer shall provide for payroll deduction of uniform union dues or fees for employees upon written authorization by the individual employee. Recognized payroll deduction authorization cards which are submitted to the Employer's Payroll Office by the 15th day of the month shall become effective as of the first day of the same month.
5.2 In order to cancel payroll deduction of union dues or fees, it is the sole responsibility of the employee to file a written notice with the Employer's Payroll Office and also to file written notice with the Association thirty days prior to the effective date of such cancellation.
5.3 Twice each month the Employer's Payroll Office will transmit the total deducted amount of dues money to the Association's office which will include a list of current members on dues deduction, gross salary and any additions and deletions for that month.
5.4 The Employer shall submit to the Association a listing of all new and terminated employees, name changes, job class code, budget number and employees going on or returning from leave of absence without pay - with effective dates in a timely manner.
5.5 As a condition of employment all employees included in the bargaining unit are required to pay to the union regular dues, a representation fee or a nonassociation fee within thirty calendar days of the beginning of their employment. The Employer will notify each employee hired into a bargaining unit position of this requirement. In addition, the employer will distribute a recognized application for union membership and a copy of this contract to each new bargaining unit employee. The reproduction cost for union contracts will be shared by the Employer and the Union.
Failure of an employee to abide by the aforementioned provision of this Article shall constitute cause for discharge; however, the University has no duty to act until the Union makes an appropriate written request for discharge and verifies (by forwarding a copy of the written notice to the Employer) that the employee received written notification from the Union of the delinquency, including the amount owing, method of calculation, if appropriate, and that non-payment will result in discharge by the University.
5.6 The Association will indemnify and hold the University harmless from all claims, demands, suits or other forms of liability that may arise against the University for actions taken by the University under this Article.
