UNDERSTAND
The Cottage School at Harborview is one of four University of Washington on-site child care centers open year-round to provide on-site infant, toddler, and preschool care for UW families. The Cottage School is located on the Harborview Medical Center campus and gives priority to University of Washington faculty and staff. The other three Children’s Centers serve UW faculty and staff, and students.
Program
- Infants (4 weeks to 12 months)
- Teachers work in close partnership with parents to best meet their child's needs. Emphasis is on providing nurturing, secure relationships through play and one-on-one interaction. Attention will be given to individual schedules.
- Waddlers (12 to 18 months) & Toddlers (19 to 30 months)
- Nurturing relationships continue to be the focus for the waddlers as their developmental needs broaden to include more independent play. As children move into the toddler stage, close contact is maintained with their teachers. A wide variety of activities are available for toddlers' exploration. Children are encouraged to use all of their senses as they discover the world around them.
- Preschool (2 1/2 to 4 years) & Pre-Kindergarten (4 to 5 years)
- A strong emphasis is placed on cooperation, the development of social skills, and the building of positive self -esteem. Recognizing that children develop at their own pace, we create an environment that offers abundant activities to meet varying developmental needs. The curriculum includes both child- and teacher-directed activities.

Enrollment Policy
Siblings of enrolled children have priority enrollment. As spaces become available, enrollment is determined on a priority basis:
- HMC/UW faculty and staff working 50% FTE or higher in a permanent position
- Other HMC/UW employees (part-time, hourly, instructors, affiliates)
- UW students
- Employees of other state agencies
- All others

All UW Children’s Centers are fully enrolled at this time. Submit your wait list application as soon as possible. Applications are accepted even before your child is born.
